If you’d asked me a bit over a year ago whether there was a chance that Minoru Fujita would become one of my favourites, I’d, well, honestly have been so confused I wouldn’t have known how to answer. I was aware of his existence, didn’t hold anything against the guy, but wouldn’t have expected him to wander onto my radar. Then, he turned up in ChocoPro, and everything changed. Because it turned out that as well as being a wrestler with a wildly varied career that has taken in everything from Battlearts to the NJPW junior division to his current deathmatches, he’s also a big old softie. Someone who has embraced ChocoPro as a second home, donning the Pencil Army dungarees and stabbing people with weapons from his cat bag. Throw in some fantastic matches with Yunamon, Emi and Akki, and Fujita has become a wrestler I find it very easy to sing the praises of. However, there is still that wild career that I have barely looked at, so for this Wrestler Mixtape, I figured it was time to dip my toe in the water.

Wrestler Mixtape: Tsukushi Haruka

Everyone’s favourite devil child.

It’s been a while since I put together a Wrestler Mixtape and having enjoyed the brilliant Hamuko Hoshi vs Tsukushi Haruka IW19 title match, I was in the mood for some more Skoosh. So, here are three random matches plucked from YouTube and some rambling about the twenty-three-year-old veteran to go along with them. Enjoy!

Wrestler Mixtape: Jushin Thunder Liger

I guess it’s time to throw a token man into my Wrestler Mixtape series. If you’re going to watch one of those menfolk do a wrestle, Jushin Thunder Liger is probably not a bad choice. The Thunder God is one of my favourites and an absolute legend. However, rather than seek out some of the matches that earned him that status, I’ve decided to focus on times where he’s taken a wee trip over to America. Why? Honestly, they’re all on the first page when you put his name into YouTube… sorry, that’s not a very good reason, is it?

Wrestler Mixtape: Mio Momono

Happy! Credit: WAVE

Having done my first two mixtapes on wrestlers I know very well, I thought number three should go in the opposite direction. I have seen plenty of folks gush over a certain Mio Momono recently as she made her return from what I assume was injury. Sadly, as she generally works promotions I either don’t follow or have only just started watching, I have never seen her wrestle. Perhaps it’s time to fix that.

Quick note, these are listed in the order I watched them. Would it have made more sense to go chronologically? Yes. Did I do that? No.

Wrestler Mixtape: Lulu Pencil

The second person to have the dubious honour of taking a spot in my wrestling mixtape series debuted nearly a year ago. However, it’s safe to say that over the last 11 and a bit months, Lulu Pencil has made a hell of an impression, proving that freelance writers and wrestlers are basically the same thing…

Despite the limited options (Lulu hasn’t had that many matches), I’ve decided not to include the obvious (so, no Honda) and instead pick out a few other Lulu efforts. Enjoy!

Wrestler Mixtape: Kaori Yoneyama

All the belts.

I love mixtapes. Unfortunately, they’re not really a thing any more, making it a love I rarely get to explore. So, in an attempt to scratch that itch, I’ve decided to introduce a new feature to Ramblings About, Wrestling Mixtape. Now and then, I’m going to pick a random wrestler, grab three of their matches off YouTube and have a (spoiler free) ramble about them (I appreciate a mixtape with one band on it would be rather limited, but shush).

To kick it off, I’ve gone with one of my low-key favourites, Kaori Yoneyama. It’s a doubly good choice because there happens to be a wealth of material to choose from. Let’s have a look, shall we?
