Everyone has their weaknesses. The things that make them go all wobbly at the knees no matter the quality. I adore coming of age films and teenagers being cut up, and if you write an album about packing up and hitting the road with Springsteen, the odds are I’ll be right there with you. If you do it to an exceptional standard, then I’ll be putty in your hands.
Horror has delved into many strange places. From biting female genitalia to Nazi zombies, there aren’t many worlds it won’t explore. Yet, to make a serious horror film about a bathroom. That seems ambitious for even the most out there of genres.
After the madness that was Fantastica Mania New Japan gets back onto the serious stuff with The New Beginning in Sapporo, a show that kicked off Suzuki-gun’s invasion of New Japan proper. Even with a second event next weekend this was a stacked card and gave me plenty to think about as I continue my New Japan education.

JD and Coke, heavy metal and Marshall and Skindred on a Friday night. Some things just work and damn that last one works. In fact, Skindred on any day of the week gets the thumbs up, but with the joy of knowing that there’s no work tomorrow and you can sleep away the repercussions of the party, well that’s just lovely.
While Flair has been a regular in this series so far, we are now hitting what many might see as his heydey. His feud with the Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat is still spoken about in hushed tones, and there are three five-star matches between the two in 1989. The first one is for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and took place at NWA Chi-Town Rumble.

Dinner with your ex-wife is always going to be awkward. It’s even weirder when you haven’t seen her for two years, and she appears to have spent that time joining a cult with her new lover. But you know, nice to catch up and all.
This week’s playlist has a bit of everything as Edinburgh-based Scumpulse sit next to the mighty Black Sabbath. Elsewhere, we have an acoustic offering from John Garcia, some Pantera, a bit of Rancid and even a track off the new Betraying The Martyrs album. As usual, enjoy.
Another year another Rumble and another feeling of bitter disappointment for wrestling fans. Or maybe not, for some people do seem to have been quite pleased with this year’s event, and it certainly set the seeds for more than one WrestleMania match. Whatever your thoughts, it’s time for you to sit back and listen to me as I run through ten things I noticed during this year’s event.
Heavy Scotland are, in their words, looking to help grow the Scottish metal scene. Bringing over Behemoth is a good start, but if they really want to do that they need to get some locals on the bill and they’ve found the perfect way to do it. Over three nights, eight bands will go head to head to fight for the opportunity to open the main stage of this two-day festival on the Sunday. The first night gave us a glimpse at who could take their place on that stage.
