If you’d asked me a bit over a year ago whether there was a chance that Minoru Fujita would become one of my favourites, I’d, well, honestly have been so confused I wouldn’t have known how to answer. I was aware of his existence, didn’t hold anything against the guy, but wouldn’t have expected him to wander onto my radar. Then, he turned up in ChocoPro, and everything changed. Because it turned out that as well as being a wrestler with a wildly varied career that has taken in everything from Battlearts to the NJPW junior division to his current deathmatches, he’s also a big old softie. Someone who has embraced ChocoPro as a second home, donning the Pencil Army dungarees and stabbing people with weapons from his cat bag. Throw in some fantastic matches with Yunamon, Emi and Akki, and Fujita has become a wrestler I find it very easy to sing the praises of. However, there is still that wild career that I have barely looked at, so for this Wrestler Mixtape, I figured it was time to dip my toe in the water.

Ramblings About’s Top Twenty Matches of 2019

Spoiler. Credit: NJPW

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but this is a wrestling website. So, while I’m sure you were all desperate for my takes on music and film, this is the biggy: my twenty favourite matches of the year. I’ll be keeping it short because I’ve written about all of these before, but there is no harm in dishing out a reminder.

DDT/BJW New Year’s Shuffle Tag Tournament (31/12/19) Ramble

A decent party. Credit: DDT

My biggest worry about making this Japan trip solo was how I was going to spend my Hogmanay. The idea of being on the other side of the world, all on my lonesome and sat in some random bar while the bells rang felt, well, a bit depressing. Thankfully, Big Japan and DDT came to the rescue, with their Tag Team Shuffle tournament, a show that went through midnight and gave me an excuse to see in the New Year in Korakuen Hall. Like yesterday, this won’t be a traditional review, but instead a ramble about the experience.

BJW World Is Not Enough (30/12/19) Ramble

Image result for big japan wrestling world is not enough

I’m in Tokyo! A fact that still seems unbelievable despite being very much the truth. That means all the usual reviews will be delayed (I’m going to try and get some stuff up, including my match of the year list, over the next few days), but that I have other stuff to ramble about. To kick that off, I went to Korakuen Hall yesterday for my first live Japanese wrestling show and damn, did I have a good time. This won’t be a standard review. I wasn’t taking notes and had a few drinks, but will instead be a rumination of what it was like to go to Korakuen and watch Big Japan.

Ramblings About’s Top Ten Matches of May 2019

Spoiler. Credit: NJPW

It’s becoming a recurring theme for this list to go up a bit late, but in my defence, there is a lot of wrestling that I want to review. I have a habit of giving that precedence and I’m not even sure why. Anyway, I need to apologise because this is a New Japan heavy list. I watched every single Super Juniors’ show and while I did catch some other bits and pieces, it was less than I would have liked. Still, it was one hell of a tournament, so I’m pretty sure that every match justified its spot on the list.
