Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for December 2022

Wait, that’s not your gimmick. Credit: TJPW

That’s a wrap! My final round-up of the month for 2022 is a bit shorter than the others, thanks to Christmas, end-of-year stuff and probably a few too many beers. Still, there were a few matches that I wanted to shout out, so there is plenty to get your teeth into anyway. Plus, if you do want more, I’ve written about my wrestlers of the year, the best of the rest matches and my match of the year, so give those a read after you’re done with this.

DDT/BJW New Year’s Shuffle Tag Tournament (31/12/19) Ramble

A decent party. Credit: DDT

My biggest worry about making this Japan trip solo was how I was going to spend my Hogmanay. The idea of being on the other side of the world, all on my lonesome and sat in some random bar while the bells rang felt, well, a bit depressing. Thankfully, Big Japan and DDT came to the rescue, with their Tag Team Shuffle tournament, a show that went through midnight and gave me an excuse to see in the New Year in Korakuen Hall. Like yesterday, this won’t be a traditional review, but instead a ramble about the experience.

GCW’s rise over the last few years has been as fun as it has been astonishing. Not long ago they were a deathmatch promotion, unknown to wrestling fans outside of that niche. Then, they figured out how to capture the minds and attention of a much larger crowd, blending that deathmatch style with comedy, great wrestling and a little bit of magic. It’s been so successful that they’ve been able to take this show on the road, heading to Tokyo’s Shin-Kiba 1st RING for two nights that blended their roster with a few notable Japanese faces.

Ramblings About’s Top Ten Matches Of March 2019

Spoilers. Credit: NJPW

Hello friends, this month’s selection of matches is rather New Japan focused thanks to the New Japan Cup. That had the dual effect of New Japan putting on a lot of shows with the potential for greatness and me not having a lot of time to check out other wrestling because I was reviewing it all. Anyway, here’s some fantastic graps.

WrestleMania Weekend: WWN Supershow: Mercury Rising Review

All the big boys. Credit: WWN

WWN capped off their WrestleMania Weekend with Mercury Rising, which despite its billing as a Supershow, was at its core Evolve 104. While there was a handful of new faces or irregular Evolve talent, that’s the only thing that distinguished it from the two events they’d already held. Not that I’m complaining, I liked what I saw.

WrestleMania Weekend: Evolve 103 Review

Let’s get stiff. Credit: Evolve

Evolve’s second show of the weekend kicked off with some sad news. The match I was looking forward to most, Darby Allin vs WALTER, had to be changed as Darby was injured earlier in the day. It’s kind of a miracle that doesn’t happen more often over this weekend. You’d think these wrestlers would be dropping like flies. Anyway, it’s still a decent card with a few potential show-stealers and an eye-popping main event.
