WrestleMania Weekend: Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport (4/4/19) Review

It’s WrestleMania weekend! A most joyous time of the year and one during which I get drunk and watch lots of wrestling. There are going to be two types of shows happening over the next few days.

  1. Those I watch seriously and make an effort to write a decent review of. For example NJPW/ROH and Stardom.
  2. Those I get drunk in front of and produce a rambling page of gibberish written while I watch the show. For example Spring Break and WrestleMania.

Up first is Bloodsport which slots nicely into the second category, so grab a beer and enjoy some worked shoot wrestling… is that right? Who cares! Let’s get on with it.

WrestleMania Weekend: WWN Supershow: Mercury Rising Review

WWN capped off their WrestleMania Weekend with Mercury Rising, which despite its billing as a Supershow, was at its core Evolve 104. While there was a handful of new faces or irregular Evolve talent, that’s the only thing that distinguished it from the two events they’d already held. Not that I’m complaining, I liked what I saw.

WrestleMania Weekend: Evolve 103 Review

Let’s get stiff. Credit: Evolve

Evolve’s second show of the weekend kicked off with some sad news. The match I was looking forward to most, Darby Allin vs WALTER, had to be changed as Darby was injured earlier in the day. It’s kind of a miracle that doesn’t happen more often over this weekend. You’d think these wrestlers would be dropping like flies. Anyway, it’s still a decent card with a few potential show-stealers and an eye-popping main event.

WrestleMania Weekend: Matt Riddle’s Bloodsport Review

Who wouldn’t want to watch that? Credit: GCW

I was on the fence about ordering Matt Riddle’s Bloodsport. While wXw’s Ambition was enjoyable, I didn’t love it, and Bloodsport was a similar shoot style show. Then Suzuki stepped in after Low Ki Googled Riddle (joke stolen from Voices of Wrestling) and I slapped my money down. I have no idea what to expect from a card that has Nick Gage vs Timothy Thatcher on it. God, I love this time of year.

One final note before we start, I plan to be drinking while I watch a lot of these shows and writing the reviews as I go. If they get even more incoherent than usual, that’s the reason. Let’s dish out some stars.

Evolve 95 Review

With Evolve 94 proving to be a decent showing from Gabe and his boys it was up to 95 to continue that momentum. They had an influx of fresh and relatively unknown talent, a new champion and an invasion angle set up. In theory, that’s an excellent place to start, and it now all leans on where they go next. Let’s dish out those stars.

Evolve 94 Review

It’s been a tough month for Evolve. Between leaked emails and broken relationships, the focus has moved away from the ring and towards the shenanigans behind the scenes. A move that I can’t imagine they are that happy about. However, with a big main-event between Keith Lee and Matt Riddle, there was a chance that Evolve 94 could start to correct that slide. Let’s dish out those stars.
