Vampires have taken a bit of a kicking in the last few years, going from dreaded creatures of the night to sparkly things that fall in love.  Therefore, it’s refreshing to see Jim Jarmusch remind us just how cool vampires can be in his latest movie Only Lovers Left Alive.
Cuban Fury
Nick Frost has spent his career in the shadow of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg. Â However, to purely consider him as a stooge to their talents is to give the guy a lot less credit that he deserves. Â Underneath that overweight outward appearance is an incredibly talented physical comedian and therefore it’s not surprising that the idea of him doing a comedy based around the idea of salsa dancing is on paper a recipe for success.
Dallas Buyers Club

Dallas Buyers Club is the latest step in the ongoing McConaissance and is looking to be the one that will gain the man, once famous for leaning on his co-stars on the side of buses, that coveted Academy Award.  Directed by Jean Marc Vallee it is a movie that has been a long time coming, with names such as Woody Harrelson having previously been attached to it.
12 Years a Slave

So as we enter Oscar season it becomes clear that a certain kind of film begins to dominate our cinema screens.  Movies that are aiming for one of those nice shiny statues are out in force in the UK and one of the pack leaders stands in the form of Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave. It’s a movie that tells the remarkable true story of Solomon Northup, a free black man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the early 1800’s.  It was nominated for 9 awards by the Academy and has so far appeared to receive universal acclaim.
American Hustle

“Some of these events are true”.  The words that open American Hustle are a fair reflection of the liberties this film has taken with the story of the Abscam con.  Directed by David S. Russell and seen by him as the spiritual third part of a trilogy that also includes The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle see’s the return of many of the stars who graced those previous efforts and much like those films, is well on it’s way to sweeping up this awards season.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Over the years Anchorman became such a big cult classic that it eventually left the word cult behind and now sits in many peoples head as just a pure classic.  Taking into account Hollywood’s love for a sequel, it’s no surprise therefore to see Will Ferrell and Adam McKay return to the news team for a whole new chapter in the tale of Ron Burgundy.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was a surprisingly touching and fun film that also had a big dollop of surreal weirdness.  It was also a surprise success so naturally we now have a sequel on our hands.  The rather boringly named Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is that sequel and has seen most of the original cast return apart from Mr. T who has been replaced by Terry Crews as Eric Devereaux.
The Fifth Estate

The story of Julian Assange and Wikileaks was one of the biggest events of recent years.  Therefore, it should come as no surprise that The Fifth Estate followed closely behind, with director Bill Condon (who directed the final two Twilight movies) tasked with taking the story to the big screen.
