Top 5 Gigs of the Year

Live music is one of life’s greatest pleasures.  Little is more exciting than seeing a band on fire, doing their thing in front of a baying crowd.  Therefore, it has to be said that ranking gigs is always kind of difficult, different bands go for different atmospheres.  However, I am still going to give it a damn good try.

Heights w/ Echoes, Swallows and Flakes at Classic Grand, Glasgow, 4/10/14

Heights are dead.  Not in the sense that Alex Monty and co have actually keeled over and slipped off their mortal coil, but in the sense that the band are saying goodbye.  Anyone who has paid attention to my blogs for the last few years, will be well aware that I have a great deal of affection for this band.  In a UK where there are more hardcore bands than ever before, they stood out as something a bit special and I am genuinely gutted to see them go.  However, the opportunity to go and see them live one last time – they played their last ever show in London last night and were in Glasgow on Saturday – was something I wasn’t going to miss.

Weekly Playlist 21/3/14

Alright, as the whole every Monday thing has failed, I’ve decided to reinvent this.  I am currently doing a radio show every Friday at 12 on Radio ENRG, which can be found here.  So I figured from now on I’d just post up the playlist from my show after the fact!  Now I’m a couple of weeks behind, so I will start with week one, but the radio station is off air next week so that will allow me to catch up and then I’ll slip another one in during the week at some point.  So here is week one of Stuart’s Alternative Hour (inventive title isn’t it?)

The only track not on Spotify was GutterGodz – “All I Want to do is Rock ‘N’ Roll” which you can find here.
