Ramblings About’s Wrestler of the Year 2022: Mei Suruga & Pom Harajuku

Having gone back and forth for weeks over who my wrestler of the year was, I managed to whittle it down to two candidates and began the process of figuring out who would be number one. Then, having spent far too long thinking about it, I realised that this award is my own creation, which means I can do whatever I want. Therefore, for the first time ever, Ramblings About Wrestling have two wrestlers of the year, and what a pair they are. The best in the world in 2022, as decided by me, were Mei Suruga and Pom Harajuku.

Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for September 2022

The UK might have spent September doing the political version of loudly shitting itself while screaming and pointing in the opposite direction to distract us, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some great wrestling. This month I go deeper on Stardom than I have in a long time, find a new favourite bear and still have time to talk about a load of other stuff. So, if you’re looking for something to distract you from the UK’s incompetence (or any other country’s), here’s some good graps to watch by candlelight as you try to save money.

TJPW Autumn Tour (16/9/22) Review

The bee goes for a spin. Credit: TJPW

After a quiet couple of weeks, TJPW were back in Shinkiba to start making moves toward Wrestle Princess. The main event of this show decided who would challenge for the International Title while the semi-main put Shoko and Yuka on opposite sides of the ring. I’ve always got a base level of excitement for big TJPW shows, but let’s see if this manages to push me over the edge.

Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for August 2022

August has been a hell of a month for the old wrestling. Between the Princess Cup and the 5STAR, we’ve had loads of high-profile singles matches in the two big joshi companies, plus a load of exciting stuff helping elsewhere. It means this is a long one, but fingers crossed it’s also a good one, and there will be plenty for you all to get your teeth into.

TJPW Princess Cup (13/8/22) Review

Can Miu survive the Ace? Credit: TJPW

Tokyo Joshi is doing a rare Korakuen double-header to bring the Princess Cup to a close. The focus for night one was on the semi-finals, but they were far from the only thing to catch my eye, as Max the Impaler made their Japanese debut against Pom. I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen Max wrestle, but everything I have seen of them made me very excited for that match. Would it live up to my high expectations? Time to find out.

Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for July 2022

Somehow, we’ve finished up another month, which means it’s time for my favourite matches from the last 31 days. As usual, there is probably all sorts of cool stuff that I’ve missed, so if you have anything to recommend, pop it in the comments below and feed my disturbing wrestling habit. If not, enjoy the article, and if you have a few quid going spare, consider throwing it in the pot.

TJPW Summer Sun Princess ’22 (9/7/22) Review

The Diamond Ass is versatile. Credit: TJPW

I can’t imagine anyone reading this is interested in my private life, but I spent the last five days in a field, baking in the sun, drinking too much beer and watching loads of live music, so to say I’m a bit frazzled is an understatement. Therefore, if this is even more nonsensical than usual, you have to forgive me because that’s the law. And yes, I could have waited a day or two, but I was desperate to watch this show and didn’t want to.

Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for May 2022

Don’t let them fool you, they’re menaces. Credit: ChocoPro

I was doing so well on keeping up with wrestling, and then we hit the summer months, which meant I started having to go outside and see other people, and now I’m behind again. Despite all that, there is plenty of action to get your teeth into from the last month with multiple returns, at least one goodbye and a special tribute show. Enjoy!

Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for February 2022

A true dream team. Credit: WAVE

After an incredible start to the year, February 2022 suddenly had some pressure on its shoulders. Could it keep it going? In wrestling terms, the answer is yes, in the rest of the world, well, let’s not think about that too much (although if you have any spare cash, do consider donating to humanitarian causes in Ukraine). February was a fun month of wrestling, with a whole lot to talk about, so let’s get to it.
