After a quieter September, I’ve gone all out for October. We’ve got a host of exciting matches to talk about here, including two dives into uncharted territory and a somewhat accidental Meiko Satomura month as I continue my journey through the GAEAISM YouTube channel. Sendai Girls The Top of Joshi Wrestling (19/3/25) Review

Not many wrestlers can claim to be unbeaten against Meiko Satomura one-on-one, but Chihiro Hashimoto has the honour. With Satomura’s retirement on the horizon, they butted heads one last time. Would Meiko end her career by finally getting one over her prized pupil? Well, this show happened several days ago, so I imagine you already know, but hey, let’s keep the non-existent tension going.

Gatoh Move – To The Future

Gatoh Move probably shouldn’t have survived the last five years. When COVID shut down wrestling in Japan as we knew it, things looked bleak for even the big promotions, never mind the tiny one that inhabits an old dentist’s in Ichigaya. Emi Sakura has admitted that she thought it was the end, and honestly, with the world seemingly burning down, would anyone have blamed her for giving up? Thankfully, she’s made of tougher stuff. Instead of curling up in a ball, she took a wild swing, calling on an old friend in Minoru Suzuki and putting on a show intended entirely for YouTube. On that day, ChocoPro was born, and while we didn’t know it yet, Gatoh Move was saved.

There’s never been any doubt about Mei Suruga’s talents as a wrestler. It didn’t take long for her to earn her genius tag, and while there were things to improve, Mei’s ability to hook you in has always been there. Instead, the questions have been about how Suruga adapts to a more serious style. She shines with the joy of someone who loves this stuff, capering around the ring, delighting in everything she does, and while I would happily have that be the main event style of every wrestling company in the land, the sad reality is that no one listens to me. There has always been a feeling that if Mei wanted to reach that next level (and she’s been open about that being the case), she was going to have to find a way to take that carefree approach and hone it into something a little bit sharper.

Marvelous Sapporo (2/6/24) Review

Marvelous’s second day in Sapporo had found itself a title match for the main event as Magenta faced the challenge of Unagi Sayaka and Brooke Havok. Outside of that, the card promised another fun show from the Marvelous roster’s trip up north. Let’s see if it was right to do so.

Marvelous Sapporo (1/6/24) Review

Marvelous’s trip to Hokkaido is something I look forward to every year. With the roster and some guests heading north for the weekend, the shows take on the air of a summer holiday as everyone kicks back and enjoys the chance to compete in front of a crowd that isn’t as over-saturated with wrestling as the one in Tokyo. You’re unlikely to come out of these shows with a match-of-the-year contender, but the vibes are immaculate, and that’s what I love about it. So, let’s see what went down.

Marvelous (14/5/24) Review

Marvelous’s first show post-Korakuen saw some last-minute card scrambling force them to put the intended main event on first. If I’ve got my translations right, someone’s mum had fallen ill, so Chigusa Nagayo swapped things around so they could get away as soon as possible. It’s always nice when a company you like proves they’ve got their hearts in the right place, and I hope everything turns out alright for the person (and their mum) in question. Anyway, on with the show.

Marvelous 8th Anniversary (3/5/24) Review

Apologies to the one person who might have been waiting for a review of the Takumi anniversary show. Marvelous had some issues with the VOD, and it’s still not up (I’ve contacted them, and they said they’d look into it). However, there is no time to grumble as we move from one birthday celebration to the next. Marvelous entered their ninth year by marking the eight that came before at Korakuen Hall. What went down? Arisa Nakajima is back! Let’s revel in that fact before we worry about the announcement made at the end of this show. Nakajima returned at Korakuen Hall in an all-star showdown that also included the start of a temporary return for Tsukasa Fujimoto. That sounds like a good time, doesn’t it?
