With Wrestle Princess getting ever closer, Tokyo Joshi was back live on Wrestle Universe. We still lack a card outside of the title match, but with that being a massive showdown between Itoh and Miyu, I don’t think anyone’s too worried, and they both had featured singles matches on this show to whet the appetite.

Where the fuck did August go? I probably say something like this every month, but Jesus Christ, the last thirty-one days have flown by. Still, there was plenty of wrestling to enjoy (although perhaps not as much as expected, thanks to COVID rearing its ugly head), so I have loads of great matches to tell you all about. After a mindbogglingly good first day at Korakuen, Tokyo Joshi is back to wrap up these Princess Cup shenanigans. My prediction of a Mizuki vs Shoko final didn’t come to be, but I did predict Shoko to win, so I might not have got it completely wrong. I guess it’s time to find out.

TJPW was back in Korakuen Hall, and if you’ve been paying attention recently, you’ll know that means we’re almost guaranteed a good show. The twist this time is that they were going back to back, finishing off the Princess Cup with a double-header. It meant there were no big title matches, and sadly Yuki Arai had to miss out after coming into contact with someone with COVID, but TJPW had called on some guests to flesh out the midcard, so their good streak looked safe on paper. Would that also be the reality? Time to find out.

It’s quarter-final time in the Princess Cup, and while certain other joshi tournaments might be kicking off, we all know this is where the real action is. Coming in, I was fairly confident how one of these matches would end but could have easily been convinced either way with the other three, so we are in exciting territory here.

Day three and in the midst of a hot, humid Tokyo summer, some of the TJPW wrestlers’ legs must have been starting to feel heavy. Still, this was the penultimate show, and our Princess Cup match-ups are getting bigger and bigger, so they’ll have to dig deep and think of the prize.

It’s day two of the Princess Cup and day two of four for Tokyo Joshi in Shinkiba. This is a schedule that they don’t usually run, so I’m intrigued to see how the wrestlers cope with working this much. Day one definitely suggested they were taking it a little bit easy (for which I don’t blame them, and I still had a nice time), so will that extend into day two? Or will they start to ramp things up? On the week that Sakisama went viral and a million voices screamed out ‘step on me’, it seems only fitting that she makes her challenge for the Princess of Princess title. While I’m not entirely sure that’s a long-term way to get more people interested in Tokyo Joshi, horniness is a powerful drug, and I can only imagine there was at least a handful of people tuning in for the first time, hoping to catch a glimpse of their new favourite French aristocrat. Would Tokyo Joshi put on a show capable of convincing them to stick around? Time to find out.
