The Princess Cup wrapped up at Korakuen last weekend, and as is fairly common these days, I was there in person. If you haven’t already, go check out my ramblings about some of my favourite matches from the earlier rounds, and then come back and read my thoughts on the final.

Better late than never, I have decided to ramble about my favourite matches from this year’s Princess Cup (the final will be covered in my review of the Korakuen at some point in the next few days). I know some people have had issues with the booking, but I thought, from an in-ring perspective, it was a very good tournament. There were some matches I didn’t get into here that were also really good (mainly because that was all I had to say about them), and I don’t think there was anything that left me feeling like I wasted my time. Anyway, on with the rambles.

TJPW were back in Korakuen with their final big show before the Princess Cup. I missed reviewing the last TJPW trip to that famous venue because, while I was there in person, I was horrifically hungover. It meant I came out the other side having enjoyed the show, but feeling unqualified to try and unscramble my thoughts on it. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with this one. Although, as is now the norm, these rambles are all based on opinions formed in the building, so there’s a chance I missed something, or will feel different on a rewatch.

The Max Heart final is always an unusual Korakuen. Positioned before Grand Princess, the gears tend to be turning for bigger matches elsewhere, so we end up with a lot of filler or build-up stuff. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean the show has struggled in the past. Let’s see how they did this year.

I make the same joke every year that it’s time for the most important show to happen on Ittenyon, so why would I stop now? Sure, Tanahashi has sold out the Dome, but is that as important as Pom and Raku teaming with Max the Impaler? I think not.

It feels like we went a while without any TJPW Korakuens, and now we’ve had two fairly close together. I won’t lie, the card for this one didn’t excite me as much as the last, but it wouldn’t be the first time Teej exceeded my expectations. Let’s have a ramble about what went down.

After a quieter September, I’ve gone all out for October. We’ve got a host of exciting matches to talk about here, including two dives into uncharted territory and a somewhat accidental Meiko Satomura month as I continue my journey through the GAEAISM YouTube channel. It was getting so unruly that there were a couple of things I didn’t have time to write about. If you ever see me in the street, feel free to ask, and I’ll bore you about them.

It’s a quieter roundup this month, not because of a lack of good wrestling, but because I haven’t had a chance to watch a lot of it. There’s no big, dramatic reason for that, I’ve just been a bit busy. Fingers crossed, I’ll be able to check out a bit more in October. However, I have decided to add a permanent ‘Past Rambles’ section, which gives me a chance to focus on matches that I’ve watched from, well, the past. It makes its debut here with a WCW Women’s Cruiserweight Title match from 1997. So hopefully you enjoy that!

It’s somehow Wrestle Princess time. I swear it comes round quicker every year. Before the show, I saw someone describe this as the weakest of TJPW’s Ota Ward cards this year, but I don’t agree with that. You’ve got Rika vs Pom for fuck sake! Not to mention the return of Apple Ice Cream. There was a whole lot I was looking forward to here, so let’s get on with it.

Despite heading down to London for a weekend to watch the stuff (don’t expect any writing about that, much beer was drunk), I feel like I didn’t watch as much wrestling as usual in August. There is no grand reason for that. I just never quite got around to a bunch of shows that I’m sure I’ll catch up with eventually. All the same, there were a few matches that I enjoyed. They’re mostly hailing from my usual places, but hey, it’s not like anyone is coming here expecting anything different.
