Live music is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Little is more exciting than seeing a band on fire, doing their thing in front of a baying crowd. Therefore, it has to be said that ranking gigs is always kind of difficult, different bands go for different atmospheres. However, I am still going to give it a damn good try.
Festival Season

So Download announcement’s have started and as usual the internet is all excited. It’s become a worrying part of our festival culture, that the announcements now seem to actually get more hype than any of the bands themselves and personally I’d love Download to follow the model that Hellfest does, where it just released the majority of its bands in one go (check out that line up by the way!) That’s not what I’m going to discuss here however, but rather an interesting divide I have begun to see in festival announcement reactions. It’s one that to be honest confuses me and while this isn’t the first time I have noticed, it is becoming more and more common.
Sonisphere Review: Sunday

By the Sunday of a festival it becomes very easy to spot the day ticket holders. They lack that feral look in their eye that people living in a field for several days have gained and aren’t that lovely British shade of red we all go when we get a bit too much sun. They’re also the ones most likely to not be holding their head and groaning.
Sonisphere Review: Saturday

With the weather continuing to be surprisingly strong, despite some light showers overnight which as it meant waking up to a tent that didn’t feel like a sauna was actually quite welcome, the Saturday at Sonisphere kicked off with Tesseract on the main stage. I only caught about five minutes of them before I headed off to Bohemia, but I felt it was worth throwing in that they sounded awesome. Continue reading “Sonisphere Review: Saturday”
Sonisphere Announcement 3

So Sonisphere have begun the process of fleshing out their undercard, which let’s face it, is really the best part of any festival. As anyone who reads regularly (do those people exist? I have no idea) will know, I have a ticket to this festival already so I have a slight (or possibly large) personal investment in it being good. So let’s see what they’ve given me.
Sonisphere Announcement 2

So the final headliner is out and it’s another solid booking, that completes a good year for Sonisphere. This is a very short post as there is not much to say but the final act is rock/dance crossover legends The Prodigy. Now I personally don’t really do the whole electro, dance, whatever it is bands like The Prodigy are, thing but I’m happy with this one (as someone who has bought a ticket). They were at Download 2012 but I was watching Slash so this will actually be my first time seeing them and I have never heard of anyone failing to have a good time at a Prodigy show.
Sonisphere announcement

So Sonisphere is back after their forced leave of absence in the last two years. It’s forty years since rock and roll first came to Knebworth and they are obviously pulling out all the stops to make sure this time they stick around. A very average Download line up might help them a little bit too.
