I’m still not over 2021 being done and dusted, but we’re somehow already a month into 2022. However, the increasingly fast and unrelenting nature of time aside, January was a hell of a month for wrestling. A whole host of companies came out of the blocks quickly, and I had a lot of stuff to talk about. So, let’s stop jibber-jabbering and get on with it.

Marvelous’s first Korakuen of the year had the potential to be one of their best, as they had packed this card with all kinds of goodies. The big one was the main event, Big Hash vs Iroha, with the AAAW titles on the line. Could Takumi rewrite the wrongs of GAEAISM and take the belts home to Chig? Time to find out.

I am always excited for Marvelous shows, but after the beautiful chaos that was the main event of the last one, I was doubly so for this. Marvelous are leaning into the Colour Wars, which have seen them divide their roster based on the colour of their gear (I may have come up with the name myself). It’s a beautifully simple way to put together wrestling matches, and my god, is it working.

This month started pretty quietly but then took off in the last week or so to the point where I am not caught up on all the wrestling. (Actually, I’m never caught up on all the wrestling, but hey, it’s nearly the Christmas holidays and who needs to spend time with the family?) Things have not been well in the world of Marvelous recently. With three people suddenly leaving (Mei Hoshizuki, Mikoto Shindo and Hibiki) for reasons that vary depending on the source (I’m not going to get into it), an already small roster was suddenly looking depleted. Throw in an injury to Mio Momono, and things have been a bit chaotic over there. That might explain why their last two shows weren’t available to watch outside of Japan, making it kinda hard for me to talk about them. But thankfully, they are back, and a joint event with WAVE to celebrate Referee Tommy’s 40th Anniversary is the perfect way to return.

Where the fuck did August go? I probably say something like this every month, but Jesus Christ, the last thirty-one days have flown by. Still, there was plenty of wrestling to enjoy (although perhaps not as much as expected, thanks to COVID rearing its ugly head), so I have loads of great matches to tell you all about.
