I know 2020 has been a hell year that went on forever, but I also can’t quite believe it’s nearly over. It’s simultaneously crawled and sprinted past as this is Tokyo Joshi’s final live showing before the January 4th Korakuen as everything else will be going out on a tape delay. That means this will probably be the last time I review them in 2020, so let’s go out on a high.

Their latest show had an intriguing main event, as Kamiyu stepped up to defend the International Title for the first time, taking on a somewhat unproven challenger in Mahiro. After a long old wait, Tokyo Joshi finally got their big show at Tokyo Dome City Hall. They probably weren’t planning on having it be socially distanced, but a bump in the road shouldn’t ruin the mood, and they’d put together a suitably packed card to celebrate the next step in the company’s growth.

It’s been a sad week in the world of Tokyo Joshi as both Natsupoi and Mina have announced they will be leaving the company. As of writing, we don’t know where they’re headed next, but they’ll certainly be missed in TJPW. Still, the show must go on, and at the very least, let’s hope they get a good farewell.

You don’t have to dig deep to see the differences between Hyper Misao and Jun Kasai. One is a crazed lunatic, dealing out violence with an increasingly bizarre collection of weapons and the other is Jun Kasai. Jokes aside, it’s safe to say that the superhero antics of PaMi and the scarred deathmatch torso of Kasai don’t look like they belong in the same world. And yet, it was Kasai that inspired Misao to become a wrestler. To push off from a life where she was wasting away, living on bags of chocolate cream puffs, and become the superhero we now know and love.

They’re back! It’s not quite how Tokyo Joshi planned to bring all of this to a close, but with shows cancelled due to positive COVID tests, it’s the way it’s happening. The Princess Cup was being finished up all in one day with, outside of the champ, arguably the four biggest stars in the company leftover. Who was going to take it home? Well, my pre-show money was on Mizuki, and I swear I wrote that before watching.
