Throwback: Antonio Honda vs Dick Togo (30/1/11) Review

There was a moment early in this match where Antonio Honda stood up with Togo’s legs trapped in his and paused, just for a second, but long enough that my brain made an assumption. After years of watching his work, I could almost see the silly wee dance we were about to get, a sweetener to make everyone laugh after a serious start to the action. I was wrong. Instead, Honda dropped backwards, wrenching on the hold and making it clear that there will be no jokes in this one.

Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for October 2021

So fucking good. Credit: TJPW

I swear it was only a week or so ago that I was putting together this list for the end of September, but here we are, the spookiest month of the year is in the bag, and alongside watching a shitload of horror films, I did find some time for wrestling. It ended up being quite a busy month, what with TJPW and Stardom running big events, the G1 ending (I didn’t watch it, but people still care) and AEW continuing to make things enjoyable in America. So, what did I watch and, more importantly, what did I enjoy? Time to find out.

TJPW Let’s Take Bravely (30/10/21) Review

The TJPW streak of live shows continues as we’re getting perilously close to their next Korakuen. So far, we’ve only got the main event of 121000000 vs MagiRabbi booked, so I came into this expecting to get a couple more announcements and, spoiler, we did. Want to find out what they are? Well, you could probably get them on Twitter pretty quickly, but you could also read my review. C’mon, you know you want to.

TJPW 秋~花鳥月露~ (23/10/21) Review

Sneaky Pom. Credit: TJPW

With the launch of the new look Wrestle Universe, we’re getting a whole month of live TJPW shows, which is one lovely spooky season treat. Not that any of them are designed to make you jump, at least not yet. I’ve watched enough horror films to know that something scary could pop up at any moment, so I’m never going to rule it out. Anyway, I’ll stop blabbering nonsense and get on with the rambles.

TJPW 秋~花鳥月露~ (16/10/21) Review

Itoh definitely looking a miserable person who wants to leave. Credit: TJPW

Wrestle Princess II was a show of the year contender, as Tokyo Joshi delivered a feast of wonderful wrestling. However, that’s done now, and it’s time to find out what’s next. Will Miyu kick more of the internet’s favourites in the head? I certainly hope so.

WAVE X Marvelous Tommy’s 40th Anniversary (1/10/21) Review

Everyone loves Tommy.

Things have not been well in the world of Marvelous recently. With three people suddenly leaving (Mei Hoshizuki, Mikoto Shindo and Hibiki) for reasons that vary depending on the source (I’m not going to get into it), an already small roster was suddenly looking depleted. Throw in an injury to Mio Momono, and things have been a bit chaotic over there. That might explain why their last two shows weren’t available to watch outside of Japan, making it kinda hard for me to talk about them. But thankfully, they are back, and a joint event with WAVE to celebrate Referee Tommy’s 40th Anniversary is the perfect way to return.

TJPW 秋 ~花鳥月露~ (23/9/21) Review

I have a lot of love for these weirdos. Credit: TJPW

We are as close to Wrestle Princess as we’re ever going to get! Well, that’s not actually true, it could be the day before, but we’re as close as we’re going to get while reviewing a TJPW show. Yup, it’s the go-home show for the big one, and with the card all sorted, we’re just adding a little of polish.
