DDT Judgement (28/3/21) Review

Smile for the camera. Credit: DDT

For DDT’s 23rd Anniversary, they dished up a rematch that everyone has been waiting for. Akiyama vs Higuchi makes sense, no matter what way you look at it. So let’s sit back and watch the two big boys hit each other.

TJPW Spring Tour ’21 ~ The Bullet ~ (27/3/21) Review

Main event Good Night Express. Credit: TJPW

I would love to know who comes up with the Tokyo Joshi show names. What made them decide on this part of the tour being labelled, ‘The Bullet’? It seems awfully violent for a company that generally goes with things like ‘Winter Lovers’ and ‘Change the Wind Direction’. Is this what happens when Itoh goes to AEW and spends time with those people?

AJW Throwback: AJW Classics Episode 20 Review

Sad goodbyes.

I’m not sure I’ve ever kept up one of these wee projects for as long as this. The ROH one was barely out the blocks before the racism and homophobia had me banging my head against a wall, and while I’m planning on continuing my run through Stardom, it’s been a little bit stop-start. Then again, not everything is cherry-picked AJW, which does make it a little bit easier. Episode 20 was filmed over two shows in 1987, the first taking place on the 16th of June in Okinawa and the second on the 28th in Korakuen. Let’s get into it!

SEAdLINNNG Grow Together! (17/3/21) Review

Ready for the fight.

From shit, occasionally a flower blooms. Is that a saying? I wrote it thinking it was, but now I’m not so sure. Fuck it. It’s there now. Sadly, Yoshiko has had to drop the SEAd title, her recent injury issues getting the better of her. In response, though, Nanae has booked Rina Yamashita vs ASUKA, and that’s one hell of a flower. Throw in a one-day tag tournament, and this show was can’t miss.

DDT Day Dream Believer (14/3/21) Review

Serious air. Credit: DDT

It’s been a while since I last wrote about DDT. That wasn’t a decision I made on purpose or because I’d stopped enjoying the company, there is simply too much wrestling and too little time. Occasionally, something has to slip, and for a bit, that something was DDT. However, after enjoying a few of their recent big shows, I’m back and looking forward to catching up with what’s gone down.

Assemble Vol. 3 (6/3/21) Review

The only suitable main event. Credit: Assemble

Assemble is back! It’s the third show for the joshi collective, although I’ve also seen it being billed as volume 4 because volume 3 was cancelled, which was confusing, so I decided to stick with three. Sorry, none of that is important. What’s important is that we have a whole load of wonderful companies in the same venue, all going out of their way to make me happy. Isn’t that nice of them?

Stardom All Star Dream Cinderella (3/3/21) Review

On yersel’ lass. Credit: Stardom

It might be happening in the bizarre world of COVID restrictions and quiet crowds, but Stardom in Budokan is Stardom in Budokan. That’s a special thing, and even as someone who has fallen slightly out of love with the company in recent times, I got those big show tingles as we built up to this. How would Stardom look in one of Japan’s most iconic venues? Well, I guess it’s time to find out.
