They’re back! It’s not quite how Tokyo Joshi planned to bring all of this to a close, but with shows cancelled due to positive COVID tests, it’s the way it’s happening. The Princess Cup was being finished up all in one day with, outside of the champ, arguably the four biggest stars in the company leftover. Who was going to take it home? Well, my pre-show money was on Mizuki, and I swear I wrote that before watching.

It was a rough weekend for joshi as the dreaded virus forced both Stardom and TJPW to cancel shows. We did get one before the shit hit the fan, though, and it was the quarter-finals of the Princess Cup. I guess it’s time to see how that went down.

I’m tweaking the match of the month formula a bit for July, ditching the top ten list to do it in chronological order. Partly that comes about because I think ranking matches was always a bit silly and partly because there was a series this month that told a story, so writing about them out of order would be weird. Watching everyone return to Korakuen, even if it is in front of small crowds, is a joy. There is just something right about wrestling airing live from that place, even if this did take place at 4 am on a Thursday for me. Still, it’s Tokyo Joshi! Who needs sleep?

I haven’t stopped feeling weird about Japanese companies going back to hosting live wrestling shows, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy having the Up Up Girls kick off a show. Tokyo Joshi was back in front of fans and, to celebrate, were giving us the next chapter in the feud of the year. Misgivings or not, it’s hard not to enjoy that.
