Download announcement 3

So Coppo and co have announced their final headliner, a special guest and a little something extra to please the internet trolls the cheeky buggers.

I saw Aerosmith when they headlined in 2010 and I think that performance doesn’t always get the credit it deserves.  When that curtain dropped and they launched into “Love in an Elevator” I genuinely thought it was incredible.  Saying that, they’re not the headline band I was looking for to sell me my ticket. It seems another very safe, unexciting booking which next to Linkin Park leaves them with two safe, unexciting bookings too many.  I’m sure they’ll put on a great show but I don’t love them enough to sell me a ticket.

I haven’t seen Alter Bridge live before and I’ve yet to really get into their music, but that’s more for lack of trying than anything else.  They are a band who many are saying could one day be headliners in their own right and they really do seem to be going from strength to strength recently.  Myles Kennedy has one of the best voices on the planet right now and Tremmonti really can play.  These guys are now number 1 on my list of bands I like at Download, are they big enough yet to sell tickets?  Probably not but this is a good booking.

Finally after yesterdays #whynotdyingfetus shenanigans Download have only gone out and actually booked Dying Fetus.  Now I’ve never listened to these guys, to be honest ,but fair play to Download for having the sense of humour and if you want to know why this is actually a really good booking let the ever brilliant Dom Lawson explain to you why.  (Click the link if you haven’t figured that out).

It has to be said that after two years of top notch headliners this years Download doesn’t really do it for me.  On the other hand there are probably thousands who are stupidly excited about it so who am I to judge.
