The Listening Booth – Blood Youth, Mineral and PJ Harvey

Hello friends, pull up a chair, crack open a beverage and get comfortable in The Listening Booth because I’m about to do some rambling. I’ve realised that if you were coming to these articles looking for actual reviews, you’d often leave sorely disappointed. They’re closer to extended therapy sessions where I try and capture my emotional response to an album. I’m telling you this because that approach is horrifically self-indulgent, so if you aren’t interested, I don’t want to waste your time. Otherwise, this week we’re diving into a new release from Blood Youth and a couple of oldies from Mineral and PJ Harvey. Enjoy!

The Listening Booth – Rotting Christ, Dangerface and A.A. Williams

Hello friends, the listening booth is open as we settle solidly into 2019 with a trio of new releases. We’ve got Greek metal, Norwegian punk and something extraordinary from Holy Roar. If that doesn’t excite you, what will?

The Listening Booth – HEALTH, At The Gates and Single Mothers

Hello my lovelies, welcome to The Listening Booth. After all the new releases last week, we’ve got a mixed bag this time around with one from the present and two from the past. Although, I have seen both of the bands from the past live in the last couple weeks, and can confirm that rumours of their demise are greatly exaggerated. The albums are from back yonder, but the bands themselves are not. Anyway, let’s stop wanging on about it and get on with, well, wanging on about it!

The Listening Booth – Agnes Obel, Malfunkshun and Louise Distras

Hello friends, welcome to The Listening Booth. Pull up a chair, get comfy and grab a beer if you want one. Just don’t expect me to pay for it. This is my weekly dive into the music I’ve been listening to and, as I’m hoping will be the norm, it’s an eclectic mix of the old and the new, the loud and the quiet, the grungey and the clean. The only connecting factor? That I find it interesting (although not necessarily good). Right, let’s see what I’ve been up to.

The Listening Booth – The U-Men, Misfits and John Garcia

Hello friends, welcome to The Listening Booth, the start of a weekly feature where I go dive into the music I’ve been listening to. Yes, it’s very self-indulgent, but I like to indulge myself, and I miss nattering about bands. It’s going to be a very casual blast through a mix of the old and the new, and hopefully a chance for anyone reading to discover something that they didn’t know they loved.

Ramblings About’s Top Twenty Films Of 2018

Spoiler…

With albums done and dusted, it’s time for the films to step up. In the past, I’ve only done ten of these, but I’ve decided to go twenty across the board this year which has allowed me to talk about even more lovely pieces of cinema! Perhaps because of that, this feels like the most eclectic list I’ve ever put together. We’ve got blockbusters, musicals, animation and enough coming of age stories to bring us all safely through puberty. This list is based on UK cinematic release dates, hence the inclusion of films which came out last year in America. Let’s get to it.

Ramblings About’s Top Twenty Albums Of 2018

Until I sat down to put this list together, I hadn’t realised how fantastic 2018 has been for music. It’s all the more evident for what’s not made my top twenty with bands like IDLES, Wild Cat Strike, Barely March, The Interrupters, Clutch, Pijn, Cancer Bats, Fucked Up and so many more missing out. If I’d wanted to be self-indulgent (okay, more self-indulgent), I could quite easily have come up with fifty albums that I loved and a hundred that were at least good. If you’re interested, buy me a pint sometime, and I’ll happily talk at you about them. In the here and now, here are the twenty that blew my mind.
