I haven’t watched as much wrestling as I would have liked this month (which is still too much wrestling by most people’s standards), so this is sadly another New Japan heavy list. It’s not as fun doing that, as I imagine most people will have seen these matches, but I do also suspect it happens because, well, NJPW puts on the best wrestling. Still, there are a few other companies in there and, hopefully, you find a gem you were unaware of.Continue reading “Ramblings About’s Top Ten Matches Of June 2019”
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Kazuchika Okada. It’s the feud on which modern day New Japan was built. After The Ace dragged them out of the muck, The Rainmaker came along to challenge for his crown. Since then they’ve gone back and forth, battling for top spot as the company grew around them. Thirteen singles matches define their feud with nearly every single one held up as a classic. Sounds like fun, eh?Continue reading “Tale Of The Feud: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Kazuchika Okada”
After an incredible Best Of The Super Juniors, New Japan has thrown together one hell of a card for Dominion. It is stacked from top to bottom with little to no fat on show. The BOSJ Final was a show of the year contender, but it might be outclassed by the same company just a few days later.Continue reading “NJPW Dominion (9/6/19) Review”
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Dominion was up there with Wrestle Kingdom for expectations coming in. Omega vs Okada IV would have guaranteed that by itself. Throw in Ospreay vs Takahashi, The Bucks vs LIJ, Jericho vs Naito and most people won’t just have their pants around their ankles but will be halfway to completion. Could it possibly live up to such a billing? I guess it’s time to find out.
Twenty albums, ten films and three matches. Why? Nobody knows, and it is certainly not from a lack of options. This has been a hell of a year for wrestling. Sure, the big boy has been a bit shit, but the rest of the world is stepping up, and even WWE had a few crackers. Wrestling is on top form right now, and it’s a joy to watch.
Alongside all my usual disclaimers I would like to point out that I am one person and I can only watch so many promotions. This list is slanted in a certain direction because of that. I hope to get into even more promotions in the future, but there are only so many hours in the day. Anyway, let’s get on with it.
Spit in my eye and call me Shirley because New Japan Pro Wrestling has done it again. This was one hell of an event, and I’d go as far as saying Dominion might be the best show I’ve seen from them yet. If you like wrestling and aren’t watching NJPW right now, you are doing it wrong. It’s like loving rock music but only listening to Shinedown. Sure, it has guitars, but you’re just punishing yourself. With that in mind, here are ten things we picked up on at Dominion.
