Ice Ribbon’s final trip to Yokohama Bunka perhaps hasn’t gone as smoothly as they’d have hoped. COVID threw more than one spanner in the works, and there were moments where you wondered if it was ever going to happen. Thankfully, they made it, packing the card and getting a fair number of people into the building as they saw the old place out.

Ice Ribbon 1043 aired on Samurai, so while it was still behind closed doors, it was a longer show that broke the formula they’ve recently been working to. I’ve generally been in favour of these short, pacey efforts, so I was intrigued to see how this would go down without a crowd.

Ice Ribbon #1039 took a break from the IW19 tournament, instead choosing to highlight the debut of Nao Ishikawa. We saw her in an exhibition match recently, but this has been a long time coming as it’s been cancelled or postponed a few times before. Sadly, she’ll have to do it in front of an empty dojo, but at least she gets the joy of being in the main event.
