Edinburgh can be a notoriously tough city to tour. That famous Scottish crowd doesn’t always emerge, and I have seen bands like Bring Me The Horizon (on Sempiternal) struggle to sell out supposedly small venues. So standing in Electric Circus and seeing a nearly sold-out crowd appreciate two of the best young bands the UK has to offer. Well, it’s one hell of a feeling.
Live Review: Mariachi El Bronx w/ Pounded By The Surf
Usually when The Bronx come to town, they leave a trail of destruction in their wake. Upturned tables and a crowd with a look that sits somewhere between confusion and ecstasy are their stock in trade. However, every now and then they leave that insanity behind. They don the Mariachi gear and choose instead to serenade us, with tales of love, life and all those other lovely things.

Hacktivist w/ Dead Harts and The One Hundred
Hacktivist are beginning to make a habit of coming to Electric Circus, with this being their second performance here within a year. Therefore, it’s kind of strange that tonight seems to actually see a smaller crowd come out for the Milton Keynes band. Although the lack of new material and the fact it’s a Wednesday night might have also played into that.

Hactivist w/ The Algorithm and Incyte at Electric Circus Edinburgh, 30/11/13

Hacktivist are a band that have thrown themselves into the metal worlds conscience in the last couple of years and made one hell of a bang. Combining the down-tuned eight string guitars of the djent movement with grime and hip hop vocals is something that will make many traditional metal heads grind their teeth in anger and the truth is it appears to either inspire hatred or love from most that hear it.
