Far From the Madding Crowd

Adapting classic literature is never an easy game.  As with all books, people have a very clear mind as to how they view the characters within them and with the classics, you also have many years of history to compete with.  Therefore, I don’t know if it is an advantage or a disadvantage to me and the film, that I come into Far From the Madding Crowd with a completely fresh pair of eyes.  Having never read the book or seen the 1967 version, this is my first experience of the world of Bathsheba Everdene.

Unfriended

Traditional horror is basically a morality tale.  Anyone who has seen the Scream films will be aware that the easiest way to survive a horror film, is to make sure you stay as far away from sex as possible.  However, in 2015 that idea doesn’t really work anymore.  Times are changing and horror movies need to catch up.  Enter Unfriended, a horror movie for the internet generation.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron

It’s fitting that the newest Marvel film sees it’s biggest stars coming up against an ever multiplying robot, which is set to take over the world.  It in many ways bares resemblance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is slowly spreading into every corner of our entertainment world and is probably making more money than God.  The jewel in the crowd of that universe is The Avengers and with the first movie playing a big part in raking in that money, it’s safe to say the pressure was on for Joss Whedon and co with the follow-up.

Fast and Furious 7

Roughly ten minutes into Fast and Furious 7 The Rock and Jason Statham are having a good old-fashioned rumble.  The Rock grabs the Stath and for all intents and purposes Rock Bottoms him through a glass table.  Following this, The Rock and one of friends are blown out of a window (which is several stories up) and land on top of a car, causing it to crumple in on itself.  No one dies in this exchange and it’s the moment I got on board with Fast and Furious 7.

John Wick

To enter the world of John Wick, you need to accept one very simple fact.  Mr Wick is a fucking badass.  Get that into your head and you will be fine, because this is revenge porn that isn’t pretending its central character is anything less than a super hero.  Wick’s nickname is the boogeyman and every time he steps foot in a room, every person in it hopes that he isn’t there for them.

SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water

A cartoon based around the adventures of a sponge which lives in a pineapple under the sea sounds like something dreamt up by someone after a long day of taking halluceinogenics.  However, it does somehow exist and SpongeBob Squarepants has become one of Nickleodeon’s biggest exports.  The first SpongeBob movie was released in 2004 and despite a lengthy period between them, everyone’s favourite yellow fry cooks is now back with The SpongBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

Cinderella

There are some stories that don’t need explaining and I’m pretty sure Cinderella falls into that category.  You’d be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t know the story of the girl with the glass slippers and therefore it was an obvious choice for Disney as they continue their conversion of their classic animated films into live action.
