It’s New Japan Cup final time! Which is lovely because it means we’ve got Kazuchika Okada vs Sanada to watch, but also because I’ve made it through the tournament with only a slight stumble at the end. It’s been a fun old run, and I’ll be sad to see it go. Now, let’s see it out in style folks.

It’s March, and New Japan are ready to serve up a good old-fashioned tournament. As usual, I shan’t be bothering with the undercard because life is too short, but I will mention that El Phantasmo was introduced (via a video) as a new member of Bullet Club during this show. That’s an incredible opportunity for him, and I have no doubt he’ll smash it.

With the first of 2019’s Honor Rising shows succeeding in being a load of fun, night two was given something to live up to. It had a problem, though. The second half of this card looks like something New Japan has dreamt up to personally spite me. Miracles are going to have to occur for me to enjoy this.

Honor Rising is a weird tour. Much like Fantastica Mania, people treat it like a bit of a joke. Yet, much like Fantastica Mania, I nearly always enjoy it. You get some fun combinations as a couple of matches always deliver. Christ, last year Hirooki Goto had a good showing with Beer City Bruiser, where else are you going to see that? I think people need to stop overthinking it, and just enjoy it.

If you’re new to NJPW, think of New Year Dash as a bit like the Raw after WrestleMania. With the big show out of the way, it’s time to set-up the year ahead with recent years featuring the return of Suzuki-gun and Jay White turning down Kenny Omega and Bullet Club. With the Dome seeing a changing of the guard, it’s an interesting time for New Japan fans, and this show will give us an insight as to what we should expect.

Now we’ve got all that Christmas and New Year malarky out the way we can get down to the real business. It’s Wrestle Kingdom season, truly the most wonderful time of the year. Last year I put together a little preview/prediction post intended for people who haven’t watched much NJPW, and I’ve decided to do it again. Sweet baby Jesus, we’re so close to putting this fucker to bed! After this show, we only have the final left which brings with it an Ibushi match, so I’m looking forward to that. One last push and we’re done with World Tag League for another year. If we grit our teeth and think of Kota, we can get through it together.

As mentioned in yesterday’s review, I’m trying my hardest to cut down on the rambling as I cover the last few days of World Tag League. It’s time to wrap this baby up and with the final having already happened, no one is craving 2000 words on night fourteen. So, here’s 1500! (That’s a joke… kind of.)
As I write this, the World Tag League final is occurring. Meanwhile, I still have three shows, including this one, to catch up on. It’s time to speed things up a bit. Brevity when talking about wrestling is not something I excel at, but hey, one should challenge one’s self. Let’s see how I get on.
