December is a weird month for wrestling as it both feels quiet and busy. We’re building up to the New Year buzz in Japan, but at the same time, everyone is going back and looking at the past twelve months as a whole, picking out their favourite matches and moments. Still, wrestling never sleeps, so there was plenty of stuff to get your teeth into, and these were the ten matches that I particularly enjoyed.

It’s time for a slight tangent in our run through Stardom’s history. Before the next show on Stardom World, they sent a team to Sendai Girl’s Flash Tournament. Featuring entrants from JWP, WAVE, Stardom, Ice Ribbon, Sendai Girls, Reina, Diana and a freelance team, it was the Assemble of its day, making it a fitting show to cover at the moment. Plus it gives us a chance to have a wee peek at what was going on in different companies.

I’m tweaking the match of the month formula a bit for July, ditching the top ten list to do it in chronological order. Partly that comes about because I think ranking matches was always a bit silly and partly because there was a series this month that told a story, so writing about them out of order would be weird. Anyway, it was another strong month for wrestling, so here are ten matches I reckon you should check out.

I love mixtapes. Unfortunately, they’re not really a thing any more, making it a love I rarely get to explore. So, in an attempt to scratch that itch, I’ve decided to introduce a new feature to Ramblings About, Wrestling Mixtape. Now and then, I’m going to pick a random wrestler, grab three of their matches off YouTube and have a (spoiler free) ramble about them (I appreciate a mixtape with one band on it would be rather limited, but shush).
To kick it off, I’ve gone with one of my low-key favourites, Kaori Yoneyama. It’s a doubly good choice because there happens to be a wealth of material to choose from. Let’s have a look, shall we?

If wrestling keeps being so great, I am going to have to ditch the top-ten element of this and make it even more rambling because there are at least another ten matches that I would like to have on this list. That doesn’t even take into account the Ice Ribbon that I need to catch up on! (I still haven’t seen Suzu vs Maya, hence its exclusion, I’m sure it’s great.) Gosh darn it, there is too much wrestling. Oh well, there are worse problems to have.

Our final Golden Week show saw our future overlords, Tokyo Cyber Squad take the book and give themselves the chance to win some cash in the main event. Who needs titles when you can top up the Korean BBQ fund?

Stardom may have just made it back from the good old US of A, but there was no time to rest tired bodies. Night two of this weekend was set to be the big one as the Stardom Draft took place, but the first show wasn’t without consequences itself. The main event saw Oedo Tai put their dance up against Queen’s Quest’s masks as one will be lost forever. Which one? Read on to find out.

On Stardom’s final show before their March trip to Korakuen they were finishing up putting the building blocks in place for the multiple title matches ahead. On top of that, Hana’s gang are going after the Artist of Stardom belts. Sound like fun? It does to me!

With the previous day’s show at Shinkiba bearing witness to everyone in Stardom getting in the challenging mood, you can only assume that this show was the start of us building to some of those matches. Throw in Saya Iida taking on Utami for the Future of Stardom Title, and you’ve got the basis for an entertaining show. Read on to find out if it was the case.

I’m a bit behind on my Stardom reviews thanks to the New Japan Cup. Panic not, though, because I shall eventually catch-up. The road to doing so starts at Shinkiba with a show headlined by Hazuki defending her High Speed title. Let’s have a peek at what went down.
