I spend a lot of time moaning about WWE. However, when that sign goes up and we all start pointing at it, I get excited. Part of that is down to the many great shows going on around the big one, but let’s not pretend I don’t love WrestleMania. Even as it trickles into its seventh hour and pisses me off for the sixth time, there are few things I’d rather be doing. It’s ‘Mania! Let’s have fun.
The last stop (before the next one) on the Road to the Showcase of the Immortals… or something like that. I forget all of WWE’s buzzwords. It was all going to be very historic, though. We know they like that.
Sorry, I’m going snarky right off the bat. I actually like Elimination Chamber matches, they tend to be quite good. It’s just a shame about the rest of the card. Let’s dish out some stars.
The Royal Rumble used to my favourite WWE event. However, recent years have seen it drop down my rankings. A few listless efforts have led to worries that they’ve lost their magic. As you settle into this show, you better hope not because we’re getting two of the buggers. Let’s dish out some stars.
For the second time in its history, WWE has gone draft crazy with last night’s SmackDown Live signalling the start of a New Era – although how that fits into the last one, I don’t know. Like most of these events, the actual show itself was a bit of a disappointment, with the awkward podium sections not hiding that most of the matches were throwaway at best. Even the main event was hardly a classic. However, it’s got us where we need to be and after Battleground we will have an all new WWE. So how does each roster look going into that new world? WWE has spent the last few weeks promoting the so-called ‘New Era’. This era has been characterised by an influx of new talent all of whom are – to put it simply – rather good. In some ways, it is a brilliant time to be a wrestling fan. When you have AJ Styles, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens being staples of WWE TV then you know that something is going right. However, underneath that surface sheen, it appears that this new era isn’t that different from the last one. In fact, it’s pretty much the same.

WWE’s build up to Payback has been surprisingly enjoyable and on paper, this show had the potential to be one of the best WWE shows of the year. So did it deliver on the night?
So Survivor Series is just around the corner and it may be one of the most one match Pay Per Views WWE has put on for a long time. Â Nearly all of WWE’s build has been focused on Team Cena vs Team Authority, with only Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose coming close to getting a similar level of attention (and they are a long way off in second). Â However, there is actually a whole under card happening as well and some of it could be alright, so here is what I expect to happen.
