While in a perfect world you want to enter every cinema free of expectations and ready to be wowed, there are times when you know what to expect.  No one goes into the latest churned out Paranormal Activity film expecting greatness.  While walking into a Steven Spielberg directed, Coen brothers‘ scripted and Tom Hanks‘ starring film is more like slipping into a hot bath.  You kind of know you are in safe hands.

Saving Mr Banks

Going near Mary Poppins should be a kiss of death to any film.  Few films are so ingrained into the heart of the world than Robert Stevenson and Walt Disney’s blend of live action and animation.  However, not many films can claim to have Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks on board and with John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) manning the helm it may just be possible for Saving Mr Banks to do the impossible.

Captain Phillips

Captain Phillips is a biopic of merchant mariner Captain Richards Phillips who was kidnapped and held hostage by Somalian pirates back in 2009.  It’s an adaptation of the book A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs and Dangerous Days at Seawhich was written by the aforementioned Richard Phillips, and is directed by Paul Greengrass’s who is possibly most famous for his work on the original Bourne films.
