Rambles about the wonderful world of wrestling.
I love a live Ice Ribbon Korakuen. We don’t always get them, so they feel like an extra special treat when they do come along. They’re even better when the card looks great, and this was an intriguing blend of guests, youngsters and old favourites. Let’s get into it!

TJPW aren’t having much luck when it comes to the old COVID. Miyu Yamashita and Make Itoh have tested positive, with Yuka Sakazaki, Rika Tatsumi, Nodoka Tenma and Raku all being close contacts. That is a lot of talent to have on the bench (and fingers crossed they’re all okay), but they still scraped together a card, and I have faith that this roster can pull through. Let’s find out if I’m right.

It’s time to head back to the Colorful World of Marvelous, to see what all our favourite characters are up to now. Marvelous are having a joyously wacky start to the year, and I am always excited to see what they do next, so let’s get on with it.

With the Rona once again running wild in Japan (thanks, Omicron), TJPW were forced to reshuffle this card after a host of new cases and close contacts. That meant Moka, Itoh, Noa and Kamiyu were out (and fingers crossed they’re all doing okay), but, on the upside, Raku is back! The Train God is here to make sure that everything will be okay.

I’m still not over 2021 being done and dusted, but we’re somehow already a month into 2022. However, the increasingly fast and unrelenting nature of time aside, January was a hell of a month for wrestling. A whole host of companies came out of the blocks quickly, and I had a lot of stuff to talk about. So, let’s stop jibber-jabbering and get on with it.

It’s time for the semi-finals of the Max Heart Tournament, as we learn who will keep their dreams of winning the tag titles at Sumo Hall alive. Will Venyu conquer all, or will Nodoka be burying those belts? Can the rookie team of Moka and Arai cause an upset, or is Miu going to defeat one of her idol heroes? Let’s stop talking about it and find out.

The Max Heart tournament has been a somewhat scattered affair so far, but for this show, TJPW were getting right into it. Our four quarter-finals make up the bulk of this card, and we’ve got a couple of biggies. So let’s go see what happened.

Let’s get this Max Heart Tournament rolling. We had a preview over the last two TJPW shows with Moka and Arai and (the brilliantly named) Free WiFi winning their respective clashes, but now all the big guns are coming out. Yup, Marika and Raku are here to end Venyu’s momentum before it even gets going. ‘Mon the Gyau Train!

For around five minutes, I pondered whether I could justify making Mio Momono my wrestler of the year when she hasn’t got into the ring since September. Then I realised I was being a fucking idiot. Mio wrapped up this meaningless award back in June and isn’t just my wrestler of the year but the best wrestler in the world right now.

December’s matches of the month is a tad shorter than usual because I’ve spent a lot of the month home for Christmas and was working on putting together my end of year stuff. However, there are still a few gems here, so I’m sure you’ll find something to enjoy. If that’s not enough, well, fuck you. Happy New Year!
