In the early days of the G1, it’s hard not to get carried away. You want to absorb all the wrestling and revel in its beauty. However, that’s a rookie mistake. I made it last year when I tried to do the undercards as well as the tournament matches. There aren’t enough hours in the day. We’re on night three, so there is still a long way to go. Protect yourself against burnout, people! Instead, read my reviews and decide what you want to watch for yourself. I’m doing you a favour really.
The first night of the G1 was a great night of wrestling but not a great G1 night. One glance at night two’s card tells you that it has the potential to be a spectacular G1 night. Kota Ibushi vs Zack Sabre Jr and Kenny Omega vs Tetsuya Naito? That’s the kind of wrestling that it’s worth getting out of bed for. Unless, like me, you watch most of your wrestling in bed. It’s time for wrestling’s tastiest feast and for me to exhaust myself trying to review it all. I haven’t even started yet, and I’m already behind. If 2000 Trees could not organise their festival at the same time as the G1 in the future, it would be appreciated. Anyway, cards on the table, I’m not going to be doing the undercard. It’s too much. I will, however, be reviewing all of the tournament so bookmark the site and come back. You can generally tell how I’m getting on by how unhinged I come across in the intro. Now, let’s stop dilly-dallying! It’s time for the G1 baby.

Best In The World is an ambitious show name for Ring Of Honor. The days of ROH being a centre of wrestling excellence behind them and you’d struggle to bestow on this show with that title. However, even with their demise, it’s hard to think of a big ROH event that hasn’t delivered. Will this be that time? Let’s find out.
Night two of WWE’s stint at Royal Albert Hall could be classed as the first ever episode of NXT UK. Although something tells me that the cards won’t be quite this stacked every week. On paper, it had the potential to make you feel all fuzzy inside. Let’s see if they succeeded.

Meltzer loved 90’s Joshi, didn’t he? We’re back in AJW where Manami Toyota and Toshiyo Yamada are facing off for the IWA World Title with the added stipulation of it being a Hair vs Hair match. It was the blow-off to a long-running feud which grew out of the two having previously teamed together.

At its best, wrestling is a perfect blend of physical excellence and inspired storytelling. It weaves two separate art forms together to create something that thrills and engages at the same time. It can survive with only one of them. PWG usually jettisons stories in the name of in-ring action while WWE is more focused on telling Vince’s tales than putting on five-star matches (even if it is often done poorly). However, at its peak, the two blend to create magic.

The world of wrestling is one that the phrase over the top isn’t quite big enough for. It’s bright, shiny and packed with characters that would be mocked if you wrote them into any other universe. Take a second and try to imagine explaining Juice Robinson to someone who isn’t in the know? More than one person has compared it to drag, and while I can’t claim to be an expert, on the surface, the similarities are evident.
I’ve been going back and forth on reviewing this show as it is headlined by someone I believe to be scum. However, there is a solid undercard to blab about, so I’ve decided to go ahead with it. Just don’t expect me to focus on the piece of shit.
