I would love to know who comes up with the Tokyo Joshi show names. What made them decide on this part of the tour being labelled, ‘The Bullet’? It seems awfully violent for a company that generally goes with things like ‘Winter Lovers’ and ‘Change the Wind Direction’. Is this what happens when Itoh goes to AEW and spends time with those people?

The Max Heart tag tournament came to an end on this show, with Tokyo Joshi running the semis and the final all at once. With four potential winners left (okay, three and HikaShio), it was time to find out who would be taking home a couple of big old trophies. How exciting!

After smashing it out the park with their latest Korakuen, Tokyo Joshi is moving into tag team territory, putting together a tournament that shows off how quietly brilliant their division is. Usually these things lean on thrown together teams, loose alliances coming together for a short time, and while there is a few of those, it’s also packed with recognised pairings. It’s a change that makes several of these match-ups all the more exciting, and it promises to be an enjoyable ride.

Tokyo Joshi moving to more regular Korakuens was one of those things that both excited and worried me. On the upside, I love big TJPW shows. They always feel special, and I can’t remember the last one that failed to deliver. The downside is that doing them more regularly might water down that special feeling. Thankfully, the card for their February trip to that legendary venue showed no sign of that being the case, as they had loaded this thing up with intriguing match-ups. Now reality simply had to live up to what was on paper.

Good old January 4th, a special time of year when Tokyo Joshi hold a yearly show and, well, I don’t know, I’m sure some other stuff happens too. TJPW may have had a bigger event at Tokyo Dome City Hall not that long ago, but this date has a lot of history, and with a packed card, it’s safe to say they aren’t about to ditch it any time soon.

Picking a wrestler of the year is dumb. How can anyone sit down and compare two people who work in different companies doing a different style with any degree of accuracy? A champion that puts on great matches every week is important, but so is the comedy wrestler who opens up the card, working their arse off to earn those giggles. Of course, in the best companies, those can be the same people, but that’s a different topic. And, despite it being dumb, I’m still going to do it because it’s also fun. However, for all that 2020 has sucked, there has still been a shitload of good wrestling, so I couldn’t pick just one. So, here’s my list of ten wrestlers who could have been wrestler of the year, but for whatever reason weren’t. Except, it’s not really because there are another twenty or thirty people that could also be on this list. Let’s stick with it being ten brilliant wrestlers. That work for everyone? Good.

I know 2020 has been a hell year that went on forever, but I also can’t quite believe it’s nearly over. It’s simultaneously crawled and sprinted past as this is Tokyo Joshi’s final live showing before the January 4th Korakuen as everything else will be going out on a tape delay. That means this will probably be the last time I review them in 2020, so let’s go out on a high.

Their latest show had an intriguing main event, as Kamiyu stepped up to defend the International Title for the first time, taking on a somewhat unproven challenger in Mahiro.
