God Gave Rock and Roll to Us.

Gene Simmons’ regularly proves that he is a man who speaks of thing he knows fuck all about.  For all I, and many others, love Kiss and the music they have released, the man is a fucking cunt.  In the last few days he’s piped about something that you would think he does know something about, rock and roll, and proved on that subject he also doesn’t have a fucking club.  Rock and roll is dead?  My fucking arse it’s dead.

Gene Simmons issue is that the money isn’t there anymore, that bands aren’t supported by labels and that the bloody charts don’t have much rock music in them.  Well Gene, a quick look at the UK chart will tell you that a rock band just had a number one album, but don’t let facts get in the way.

But here’s the truth, very few rock stars are ever going to make as much money as Gene Simmons, because from what I can tell Gene Simmons has more money than God.  However, a lot of rock stars are also not massive bell ends.  I personally think that the rock and metal world is currently in the strongest position it has been in for years.  You can’t walk out your front door without stumbling over a great band and there is literally nothing you can’t find.  Want a mixture of J-pop and metal?  You’ve got it.  Grime and djent?  Got that too.  There are fantastic rock and metal bands all over the bloody place and anyone that thinks different is obviously not looking in the right places.  While Gene Simmons sits in his bloody big mansion wanking into the mirror, rock and roll is having a resurgence that looks like it is not going to stop.

At this point in time there are bands all over the world at the top of their game.  You fancy extreme metal look no further than Behemoth and Watain.  Straight up rock and roll is being done by bands like Airbourne and Black Spiders better than it ever has before.  While the hardcore scene is the strongest it’s been since Black Flag were leading the way and heavy metal is growing once again.  Bands like Avenged Sevenfold, love them or hate them, are on course to making it huge and have reached headline status off one of their weakest albums.  While Biffy Clyro have conquered the UK and now look set to take on the rest of the world.  It makes no sense to say rock is dead, because quite frankly rock is healthier than it has ever been.

Simmons’ sums up a lot of what is wrong with modern-day rock however.  Because he doesn’t know about it, it doesn’t exist.  Because he didn’t do it, it’s not important.  Simmons’ has become the personification of someone who sits at home and writes comments on Metal Hammer articles about how things aren’t metal.  In other words, a twat.  Rock and roll is never going to die, it will get smaller and it will get bigger, but die?  Unless Simmons finds a way to sell it, I just can’t see it.
