NXT Takeover: Respect

NXT Takeover: Respect felt like a strange show going into it.  It was lacking the hype of previous NXT shows.  Despite on paper, looking like it could be fantastic.  It featured two women main eventing an NXT Special for the first time and the conclusion of the Dusty Roads Classic.  Throw in the debuting Asuka and this show should have felt huge.  Thankfully what it lacked in hype, it more than made up for on the day.

Macbeth

The story of Macbeth needs no introduction.  One of Shakespeare’s most famous works, it’s a story that only seems to grow with time.  Putting it on the big screen in 2015 is a tough task for that very reason.  The list of names who have filled the roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth reads like an introduction to acting royalty.  From Kenneth Branagh to James McAvoy.  From Judi Dench to Alex Kingston.  Whether on stage or screen, they are large shoes to step into.  So how do you make an adaptation of the Scottish Play stand out?

No Devotion – Permanance

Like it or not, Lostprophets were an important band.  They were one of the big players in a movement that saw British rock reassert itself.  What happened after was obviously disgusting, but there were other people in that band and they lost everything due to the actions of one cunt.  Which brings us to No Devotion, the moment where those men wipe themselves down and start again.  Now with Geoff Rickly on vocal duties.

The Beginner’s Guide

I don’t know whether I enjoyed my time with The Beginner’s Guide.  I’m not even sure whether I understood the game.  In fact, the only thing I’m 100% sure on is that there will be people out there who will claim it’s not even a game.  Because people are dicks like that.  Roughly 48 hours after completing it I honestly don’t know what I think, which makes writing about it pretty hard.  However, I also feel the need to get my thoughts down on paper, or at least whatever you call the unlimited paper of the internet.

The Martian

Science is cool.  That is the idea that sits at the beating heart of The Martian.  Without it nothing in this film works and yet it could have so easily been its downfall.  Based on a book which tried it’s hardest to be scientifically accurate, The Martian may not have been the easiest conversion to the big screen.  Science may be cool, but on a cinema screen it is rarely sexy.  Yet somehow Drew Goddard’s script makes it not only work, but makes it sparkle.  Throw in Ridley Scott doing his best work in years and The Martian may well be unmissable.

Live From Madison Square Gardens

This weekend WWE will bring us their second Live Network Special, this time airing from Madison Square Gardens.  It’s a packed card of wrestling matches which looks like it will deliver in the ring, but the event as a whole just feels a bit… random.  The last few weeks have been spent building up to it and yet does anyone truly believe that something monumental will happen here?  Surely not even WWE thinks the fans believe that Big Show has a chance of pinning Brock Lesnar?
