After a mindbogglingly good first day at Korakuen, Tokyo Joshi is back to wrap up these Princess Cup shenanigans. My prediction of a Mizuki vs Shoko final didn’t come to be, but I did predict Shoko to win, so I might not have got it completely wrong. I guess it’s time to find out.

TJPW was back in Korakuen Hall, and if you’ve been paying attention recently, you’ll know that means we’re almost guaranteed a good show. The twist this time is that they were going back to back, finishing off the Princess Cup with a double-header. It meant there were no big title matches, and sadly Yuki Arai had to miss out after coming into contact with someone with COVID, but TJPW had called on some guests to flesh out the midcard, so their good streak looked safe on paper. Would that also be the reality? Time to find out.

There was a moment towards the end of Mei Suruga vs Emi Sakura, where Sakura, clutching her injured shoulder, looked up at Mei with a face that seemed to be saying, ‘I can’t beat her’. Emi was in pain, struggling to continue, and this wee goblin that she is partly responsible for creating refused to back off. Seconds later, Mei locked in Lucifer, and if Sakura had been anywhere else on the mat, she would have lost. Thankfully for her, she was right at the edge, able to wiggle herself to safety and somehow stay alive.

It’s quarter-final time in the Princess Cup, and while certain other joshi tournaments might be kicking off, we all know this is where the real action is. Coming in, I was fairly confident how one of these matches would end but could have easily been convinced either way with the other three, so we are in exciting territory here.

It’s day two of the Princess Cup and day two of four for Tokyo Joshi in Shinkiba. This is a schedule that they don’t usually run, so I’m intrigued to see how the wrestlers cope with working this much. After everything Chris Brookes and Lulu Pencil had been through, from the hat to Chris Pencil, the message from Brookes coming into this Iron Person match was clear: fairy tales aren’t real. Lulu can dream every dream she wants, but none of it matters. When she faces Chris Brookes, there is only one result. It was a claim that felt an awful lot like reality when not long into their thirty minutes, Chris cut off Lulu’s attempt to slide down a table and brutally suplexed her onto it, her thin body bouncing off the wood with a sickening crash. The three-count that followed was inevitable, and any hope of the impossible faded away.
