The 29th G1 is slinking into view and it is looking particularly sexy this year. I can’t imagine being a wrestling fan and not being excited about this tournament. It has everything, and if you’re wondering what that everything is, then wonder no more, for I am here to help. Starting with the A Block, I am going to run through every wrestler in the tournament, rambling my thoughts onto the page and providing a few key matches. Enjoy.

NJPW Southern Showdown (29/6/19) Review

The spiritual main event. Credit: NJPW

New Japan took a wander Down Under at the weekend, as they put on their biggest show yet in Australia. With their ventures to the UK and America getting a lot of attention, people seem to have missed NJPW’s quiet moves into that part of the world. The scene out there has a lot of talent, and Gedo wants to be the one who gets his hands on it.

AEW Fyter Fest (29/6/19) Review

That probably hurts. Credit: AEW

AEW’s first show was widely hailed as a success. Double Or Nothing had the eyes of the wrestling world on it, and this fledgeling company stepped up, but Fyter Fest is a different beast. It’s, for all intents and purposes, a B-level PPV (it’s actually airing for free in America) and can perhaps provide a better insight into what we can expect from AEW when the size of the monthly events naturally has to drop.

The Listening Booth – The St Pierre Snake Invasion, Bokassa and Billy Liar

Hello friends, welcome to my weekly ramble about what I’ve been putting into my ears. This time around we have some unhinged fuckery, a shitload of riffs and a local lad’s debut (well, he’s local to me, he won’t be local to you unless you also live in Edinburgh). Enjoy the ramblings, but more importantly, support the music.

Meltzer’s Classics: Tomohiro Ishii vs Tomoaki Honma (14/2/15)

NJPW on AXS (December 4) Review: Ishii vs. Honma
Going to war. Credit: NJPW

I started watching New Japan regularly in January 2017, so the idea that Tomoaki Honma was having five-star matches only a couple of years before is rather baffling to me. Honma wasn’t awful when I first tuned in (his injury has since seen him drop down to that level), but if you’d asked me to rank the roster, he would have been near the bottom.

Enough Is Enough, Fuck WWE.

For a long time I, and many others, have been saying things like: ‘well, if a wrestler wants to go to WWE, I can’t hold it against them’ or ‘watch it if you must, but you do know there is better wrestling out there, yea?’ Like most, if not all, Western fans, WWE is a part of my history. It’s the thing that made me care about the stuff I write about nearly every day. However, enough is enough. I can no longer sit back and pretend that it’s okay to associate with that company. It’s not. It’s fucked-up.

Meltzer’s Classics: Shingo Takagi vs Masaaki Mochizuki (11/1/15)

Dragon Gate Gate of Destiny 2015 (November 1) Review

Let’s dive into another five-star classic as we look back at Shingo Takagi going head to head with Masaaki Mochizuki. I say it’s five-stars, but I’ve seen a few places say that Dave has never officially bestowed the rating on it. Truthfully, I don’t care. I want to watch and write about Shingo because he’s my boy, so if it’s bothering you, imagine it says wrestling classics at the top rather than Meltzer’s Classics. Better? Good.

The Listening Booth – Bruce Springsteen, Dinosaur Pile-Up and Cursed Earth

Hello friends, welcome to The Listening Booth where I ramble incoherently about what I’ve been putting into my ears. This week we’re going into an old favourite as The Boss comes to town followed by some perfect summer listening and a young hardcore band trying to keep their name in the spotlight. Sound good? I certainly hope so.
