Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for August 2023

August is a slightly different month for my Ramblings About roundup. Since the 18th, I’ve been in Japan, so the second half of this list is entirely made up of matches I’ve seen in person. Seeing something live alters how you view it, and if you’re looking for in-depth analysis over more feeling-based yelling, you might want to go elsewhere. However, I’ve been having a lovely old time, and I still hope there is some value in what I have to say.

Ramblings About’s Matches of the Month for May 2023

May is a quieter month for my best matches roundup, not because there isn’t plenty to talk about (there is), but because it’s exam time in Scotland, and as someone whose job is to help kids prepare for them, I’ve been quite busy. Still, I had a lot to say about the things I did have time to watch, and there are at least a couple I will be returning to at the end of the year, so May more than held up its end of the bargain.

Ramblings About’s Top Ten Matches of January 2021

Everything about this picture is gold. Credit: ChocoPro

The calendar has ticked over, and we are into 2021, bringing with it, em, well, much of the same so far, but fingers crossed it gets better! It does mean we’re into a fresh year of wrestling, though, with a whole new set of opportunities for people new and old to impress. With it comes, of course, my monthly round-ups of my favourite matches, where I bring you a taste of all the stuff I’ve been enjoying. So, what are we waiting for? Let’s dig in.

SEAdLINNNG Shinkiba Night (22/1/21) Review

Lot of badasses in that picture. Credit: SEAdLINNNG

The WWE Countdown finally comes to an end as Sareee’s final match in Japan would be with SEAdLINNNG. If anyone has any ideas about how we can stop her going, you better pitch them now because we’re running out of time.

Marvelous (18/1/20) Review

Marvelous have packed January with shows, with this being the second of the three they’re putting on. Not that you’ll get any complaints from me (or at least the part of me that doesn’t look at my bank balance), as so far they’ve been having a very good 2021. Can they keep it up? Let’s find out.

Assemble Vol. 2 (20/11/20) Review

That’s how you get someone hyped for a show. Credit: Assemble

What better way to celebrate the anniversary of Big Egg than to get a load of joshi companies in a building to have a lovely old time. The first Assemble is still one of my shows of the year, so this one had big boots to step into. Let’s see how they did.

SEAdLINNNG Grow Together (4/11/20) Review

A Grow Together review may feel slightly redundant over two weeks after it happened, but it’s only recently aired on Nico, and it’s not often you get to talk about an Aja Kong main event in 2020. Plus, I regularly get people looking at reviews I wrote over a year ago, so I’m sure someone still cares.

TJPW Wrestle Princess (7/11/20) Review

After a long old wait, Tokyo Joshi finally got their big show at Tokyo Dome City Hall. They probably weren’t planning on having it be socially distanced, but a bump in the road shouldn’t ruin the mood, and they’d put together a suitably packed card to celebrate the next step in the company’s growth.

Ramblings About’s Top Ten Matches Of October 2020

Living that shrimp life. Credit: ChocoProLIVE!

Guess what, folks? I was smart this month. Rather than waiting for the 31st to hurriedly throw this together, I wrote it as we went. How fucking sensible is that? You may no3 call me a grown-up. There was plenty to write about too, as we’ve got a bit of deathmatch, a load of nonsense and even some straight-ahead wrestling, what will they think of next?

Stardom Throwback: Sendai Girls’ Flash Tournament (27/10/11) Review

It’s time for a slight tangent in our run through Stardom’s history. Before the next show on Stardom World, they sent a team to Sendai Girl’s Flash Tournament. Featuring entrants from JWP, WAVE, Stardom, Ice Ribbon, Sendai Girls, Reina, Diana and a freelance team, it was the Assemble of its day, making it a fitting show to cover at the moment. Plus it gives us a chance to have a wee peek at what was going on in different companies.
