So as more and more people flock to the hallowed turf of Donnington, we are onto our final day of suggestions at Ramblings About, where we are looking to point you in the direction of those bands you might not have realised were worth your time. The Sunday traditionally see’s a classic rock edge to the main stage, but there is plenty going on elsewhere to insure that even the most avid hater of the Aerosmith’s of the world, have something to enjoy.
1. Feed The Rhino – 14:00 – 14:25
There are few bands on the planet right now who know how to stick a firework up a crowds arse better than Feed the Rhino. These guys are truly unstoppable live and it continually surprises me when people choose to take them out as tour mates. I must have seen them support other bands at least 3 times in the last couple of years and they’re usually the band I come out remembering. With only 25 minutes on stage you can bet this will be the musical equivalent of a whirlwind and with the new album just around the corner, this is the time to jump on the FTR bandwagon.
2. Against Me! – 18:05 – 18:35
Against Me have released one of the best albums of this year already and considering the tracks they have managed to write in the past, that should make this a set that can’t be missed for everyone who loves their songs to have big hooks. These guys write punk rock with soul and while they may not have the unbridled fury of some of the other bands I’ve mentioned, they will bring songs that will truly grab you and make you give a shit.
3. Suicide Silence – 19:00 – 19:45
The Pepsi Max Stage will obviously be where Ramblings About will be spending most of their day (if we were actually going to Download that is) as our last band are yet another band playing there. Suicide Silence have not had the best time in the last few years and the death of Mitch Lucker would have killed most bands. However, these guys have bounced back strong with Hernan Hermida from All Shall Perish taking over vocal duties and from what I’m currently hearing, may be about to release one of the metal albums of the year. All of this should combine to produce one of the most emotional and potentially great sets of the weekend.
So that is it for our Download suggestions. As I mentioned I won’t actually be there, which is kind of sad, but that shouldn’t prevent you from checking out the bands we’ve recommended, as they are quite brilliant. For those of you who are currently stood in a field probably hammered already or plan to start doing so either later today or tomorrow I hope you have a cracking time.
