It was recently Golden Week in Japan and Stardom ran a gimmick where each unit was handed an opportunity to produce a show. Up first were STARS, who put together a card headlined by the Costume Change Battle Royal. I shall be judging all the units based on their booking, so they better deliver quality throughout.

Hello friends, April was a busy old month for the wrassling, wasn’t it? That little thing called WrestleMania grabbed everyone’s attention for a bit, but it was far from alone. Unfortunately, that means there is a lot of stuff I haven’t watched. I’ve barely scratched the surface of the Champion’s Carnival, and haven’t even got around to watching Kofi Kingston vs Daniel Bryan. Still, there is a load I have seen, and that was packed with exciting matches.

Night two of Wrestling Dontaku finally brought this never-ending tour to an end. It wasn’t a horrible way to finish things off either. New Japan served up EVIL vs Ishii and a rematch of one of the best matches of the year so far, SANADA vs Okada. There was a real chance they were heading out on a high.

They might have made their way around 90% of Japan and put on enough shows to challenge the most devoted of fans, but New Japan have finally made it. Wrestling Dontaku. Sure, it’s taking place over two nights, so we’re not actually done, but at least we’re in the vicinity of it.

It’s time for my first proper Stardom tournament! Well, that’s not technically true, they ran a trios contest in January, but it’s my first big one. Cinderella, which I was genuinely delighted to hear gives the winner, among other things, the right to wear a pretty dress. God, I love wrestling. Anyway, I’m going to split this review up into chunks because otherwise, it will be massive, so here are my thoughts on the first round.

Stardom’s second show from the 21st continued the theme of the day as they bed in their new look units. There were a lot of first-time tag teams on this card, and that had the potential to lead to all sorts of interesting dynamics. Oooh, how exciting.

For a company that produces as much wrestling as they do, WWE/F has had shockingly few Meltzer rated five-star matches over the years. Their focus on entertainment over skill has often led to even hot feuds not producing classically great bouts. However, there have been a few, and today we go back to SummerSlam 1994 where it was brother vs brother.

Stardom has mixed things up, and one glance at the card for this show suggests they are already reaping the benefits. Our main event has two old JAN pals facing off plus the debuting of Hana’s new-look faction. Where will it lead? I guess it’s time to find out.
