If you are looking for good time rock and roll, then you can’t get much better than Wilson. So a Friday night gig in Glasgow playing in what essentially amounts to being a basement seems like a guarantee for a good time.

It’s that time of the year again and in among accusations of a lack of diversity, it is indeed Oscar season, and while you’d have to be insane as a UK based viewer to stay up and watch that over bloated ceremony, there is some fun to be had, mainly in pondering who will walk away with the awards. Which is where this comes in and my pontifications on who I believe will win the big ones. I’m going to avoid most of the technical categories, not because I think they are less worthy, but because I don’t believe I’m qualified to judge them. In a similar vein, I am no expert at predicting this stuff, so I’m just going to be talking about who I would give it to.
Bone Tomahawk is a strange meld of different ideas. On one hand, it’s a traditional Western, following a posse on their hunt to save those kidnapped from their village. On the other, it’s a horror film, when in the final act they discover those who have done the kidnapping are a group of cannibalistic troglodytes. And yet on a strange – slightly smaller – third hand, it is a comedy, stuffed with amusing conversations and witty observations.
The buzz around Creeper seems to be real and after the release of their most recent EP, they have taken to the road for their first UK headline tour. Which rather nicely for those of us who live there, strolled into Edinburgh to play The Mash House.
The King Blues were never the biggest band on the planet, but they used to feel important. Lead singer Itch was a man with opinions and even if you didn’t necessarily agree with them all, his ability to deliver lyrics in a way that made them seem important, brought a lot of issues to people who might otherwise have never thought about them. When they went their separate ways, it felt like a loss and their return should be a celebration. It is a shame then that Off With Their Heads feels like nothing of the sort.
Fastlane is behind us and despite WWE’s reported resolve to turn it into a big show, it managed to feel like nothing of the sort. If you were the kind to predict things – like me – you should have been able to get 99% of the results spot on and the in-ring action rarely got above good. One or two matches aside, this was a bit of a dud. With that in mind, please read my review.
A Bigger Splash is a film stuffed with narcissistic people that are really hard to like. While that doesn’t have to be a problem, it often can be, and it takes a talented director to turn a film about twats into something worth watching. Italian director Luca Guadagnino may just be that man and he is certainly helped by one hell of a cast.
Fastlane is just around the corner and with WWE truly gearing up for Wrestlemania season it is looking to at the very least, be an interesting show. Seeds will be planted and more than one of them will sprout come Wrestlemania weekend. So with all of that in mind, here’s what I think will happen at the last stop before the big one.
Deadpool’s journey to the big screen has been a tough one. It went through the horror that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the destruction of everything that makes that character beloved. If one good thing came out of that, though, it brought one of its biggest fans into the fold, and Ryan Reynolds has fought tooth and nail to bring an adult version of that character to life. When test footage was leaked online in 2014, the fans response was huge, and Fox finally gave into demand and greenlit a relatively small budget version of the Merc with a Mouth.
The Download line-up is shaping up and, as usual, it is setting itself up to be one hell of a weekend. While the headliners all felt a bit same old, same old the real joy is usually to be found on the lower stages, where you can see the bands that will hopefully be headlining in 10 years ripping it up in front of a handful of fans.
