The story of Florence Foster Jenkins is a mix of the bizarre and the inspirational. A New York socialite who was robbed of her status as a piano prodigy due to injuries to her hand, she went on to become a great supporter of the arts. However, she wasn’t content with just supporting them and decided to make steps into opera singing. Sadly, the only person unaware that she was awful, was herself, and she was kept ignorant of that right up until the moment she sang at Carnegie Hall.
The sun will rise, the tides will change, Arsenal’s Premier League campaign will fall apart in January and Gene Simmons will open his big fat mouth, and shit will spew out. These are the facts of life. This week Simmons has decided to outshine the other three however by commenting on the passing of Prince, describing his death at ‘pathetic.’ A claim which led bandmate Paul Stanley to say he was ’embarrassed’ by the comments.
WARNING: this review will contain a whole load of Richard Linklater loving, and if you ain’t down for that you should move along. Everybody Wants Some!! is the latest work from a man who over the course of thirty years has produced films as diverse as Boyhood and School of Rock. However, in among those vastly different films, there are themes that pop up time after time and the same goes for Everybody Wants Some!! Themes of growing up, love and philosophy that Linklater seems naturally drawn to.
In recent months, I have been lax. Whereas in years gone by I have been a regular viewer of ROH, I have quite frankly just not had the time. It’s meant that I am woefully behind on the product and apart from occasionally reading show reports online, don’t quite know where they are at this point in 2016. However, this morning (because once again, UK time zones, etc. ) I caught up with ROH Global Wars, their latest partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Andy Black’s day job has never done much for me. While I understand that Black Veil Brides will hopefully introduce thousands of kids to rock and metal, they leave me cold. So I don’t know what I expected going into his solo project. What I didn’t expect, was a solid pop album which left me wishing I was still a rather confused teenager.
Son of Saul is a hard film to love. Not because of any faults but because of its subject matter. Set in Auschwitz, it follows Saul, a Sonderkommando who works with the bodies of the dead, as he tries to conduct a proper burial for his son. While this is going on, his fellow Sonderkommando are planning an escape from the horrifying conditions that they live in.
WWE has spent the last few weeks promoting the so-called ‘New Era’. This era has been characterised by an influx of new talent all of whom are – to put it simply – rather good. In some ways, it is a brilliant time to be a wrestling fan. When you have AJ Styles, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens being staples of WWE TV then you know that something is going right. However, underneath that surface sheen, it appears that this new era isn’t that different from the last one. In fact, it’s pretty much the same.

It feels only natural that just a few months after DC released their big superhero rumble Marvel should come along with one of their own. For so long DC has been chasing at Marvel’s coattails and attempting to replicate their cinematic world that it is nice to see them doing something first for once. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop Captain America: Civil War from beating Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice at nearly every turn.
WWE’s build up to Payback has been surprisingly enjoyable and on paper, this show had the potential to be one of the best WWE shows of the year. So did it deliver on the night?
No matter what you think of Rob Zombie. When someone calls their album The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser you have to give it a listen. Although if you are expecting it to be written out again in this article, then you are expecting far too much.
